25th March Tryweryn

Yey i got a new boat. It’s big, its orange, it’s like an armchair and makes grade 3-4 into a bimble. Took if for a test on the Trywerwn on sunday. It makes micro eddies, ploughs through holes/stoppers, prevents my legs from going dead and sits miles on top of the water. Only prob is its tendancy to get stuck in holes if you end up in them. My Chronic never got stuck upside down on the cafe wave but this one did….. Anyway had a good day on the river with Will on sunday and met James Thomas who had some exciting news.

24th March, The Dee

To prove we are totally not lame, not only did we Dance, and drink our way to the wee hours of the morning. But then, stumbled out of bed for the respectable time of 11ish to go paddling.

The Parte’ consisted of Helen, Rachel, Phil and myself, and off we went to do the Dee (this was my first ever trip on the dee, twas exciting.)

Helen had a swim on serpents tail. I was too polite to laugh at the time. Then bit of a bimble down through Nomads to Town Falls… Town falls looks a lot smaller from the bridge. All made it look easy, except Rachel who made it look painful, completing most of it upside down… and bouncing. Still Rachel’s immediate reaction was to roll, rather than the deck popping option we witnessed earlier in the day 😛

Some boat and kit shopping/browsing later and we came back to Liverpool. Anyway, top day, many thanks to Helen and Phil for driving and Rachel for providing the final entertainment. 🙂

Not paddling ….

Poor Rachel, not paddling on Saturday….. If you see a nasty man with a van who looks like he crashed into many parked cars on her road, please hit him on the nose, thankyou.

Polo – Grudge match

Last week’s pool session saw a polo match between the old-gits and youngsters. I only mention this repeatedly because THE OLD GITS WON 🙂 A rematch is planned tonight? Andy R’s rules are copied here. HEALTH WARNING: Reading them can seriously enhance any feelings of smugness.

On Sunday, oldgits Helen and Sue went for a very nice natureful paddle at Ironbridge, with  Higgo (Reading), Nicki, Nigel, Anna, Lee and Mand (all from Wolverinehampton way). These are pictures of us and cormorants. Please note Helen’s new-but-not-mango cag, and say how nice it is.

Stafford and stone trip report

OK, here’s the first blog report of Liverpool (Ex) Uni Canoe and kayak young’uns. On Sunday 11th March, LUCC (proper) went to Stafford and Stone div 3/4 slalom, and it was nice. This involved several allegedly old people and thus it could qualify as a “young’uns” associated event, although Helen doggedly refuses to enter slalom as a “Divisional Veteran.”

After all, you can’t be a divisional veteran if your Mum comes along to shout helpful encouragement from the bank, can you? Thanks Stafford and Stone for organising a nice event and booking good weather, thanks Tamsin for organising, Penny for driving and Alison, Aussie Dave, Jenny, Tamsin, Tom, Alex, Erica, Medic Dave and Kim for a great day. Neil Cowen, professional photographer, has taken pictures of the event which are here
